DOME Enterprises
Allo! This is our entry to Feldo's one button jam!
Story and Instructions
The game is set in a fictional world where employees of the megacorp DOME Enterprises (Dangerous Office Machine Enterprises Enterprises, yes a redundant acronym) accidentally wrote and installed bug filled firmware on the office machines. Things started to go wrong with the printer. The next thing anyone knew, the machines were killing people and setting up boss arenas. It's how these things go. Everything is totally fine though because they have all potential junior debuggers (you!) sign an agreement before any "debugging" is done.
To play, use the Z (circle) button. It will advance cutscenes, jump, and stomp if you're already in the air. We have a mini tutorial at the start: just stomp the button to start playing.
You're able to stomp on projectiles, enemies and boxes, but need to avoid electric walls (clearly bad wiring) and cones. Your score translates to your job bonus, so stomp on all the things you can (and even try to destroy the ceiling)!
About Us
We're a team of 2 not-really-video-game coders and 1 musician, but we have never done a game jam before so please be gentle!
The final submission has two full levels complete with two bosses and a mini tutorial at the start.
Everything was created without AI from scratch for this competition, primarily using the very superb PICO-8 fantasy console by Lexaloffle. Other software used was Blender for rendering the initial player sprites. We had over 170 commits and around 1700 lines of code.
Embers: Level design, Enemy design, Sound design
Ari: Player design, Game framework, Sound design
Sun: Music
We used creamdogs's sprite rotation function, Gingerbeardman's sprite zooming function and kometbomb's fadegen to make the screen fading system, but otherwise all the code and resources were made by us, of course assisted by the awesome documentation and info from Lexaloffle and the PICO-8 community.
It was definitely a fun challenge to apply all three of the theme words, and we held to the optional rules of menus with one button, decent contrast, and text not being integral to gameplay!
Have fun and feel free to check out the game code on GitHub if you want to see how we did anything.
